Vice Admiral Conrad Lautenbacher, Ph.D.

Vice Admiral Conrad Lautenbacher, U.S. Navy, (Retired) serves as Chief Executive Officer and Director for GeoOptics, Inc. Previously, he served as Vice President of Science Programs, Applied Technology Group (ATG) of CSC Corporation. Admiral Lautenbacher served as Under Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere and Administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) from 2001 to 2008. Prior to that, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of the Consortium for Oceanographic Research and Education (CORE), now known as the Consortium for Ocean Leadership. Before joining CORE, Admiral Lautenbacher formed a consulting business, CEREBRUM, Inc. and worked principally for defense industries. His notable navy assignments include Commander U.S. Third Fleet; Deputy Chief of Naval Operations (Resources, Warfare Requirements and Assessments); Director of J-8 (Resources) on the Joint Staff; Commander Naval Station Norfolk; Commanding Officer of USS HEWITT (DD-966); Commander Cruiser Destroyer Group Five; and Commander of Naval Forces in Riyadh during Operation Desert Storm. Admiral Lautenbacher is a graduate of the US Naval Academy and holds both a master's degree and doctorate from Harvard University in Applied Mathematics.
